I know Mageson has spoken of the 40 days being linked to Venus before, but I didn't know exactly what tied it together other than some vague numerology.

Im doing a bit of searching and what comes up is that Venus retrograde lasts about 40 days.

If this is the case, then from my interpretation Venus retrograde is to go inward to rectify the subtle matter of the soul and harmonize it, as retrogrades are in common interpretation meant for retro and introspect, honing what one has rather than outwardly applying it, cleansing, organizing, reevaluating etc.

So, opinions?
