I was observing the music I listened to growing up from rock bands to alternative, to metal, and some music back then that was actually mainstream (from rock bands mostly) had a positive message and light to them and they helped a lot of people struggling with mental health issues and any social issues that the world may have encountered.
Nowadays, the music market is saturated with disgusting rap music that literally just works by sugarcoating the fuck out of any other mainstream song and recycling it.
And pop music that teenage girls worship and fall heads over heels for any popstars. It's fucking ridiculous to see, honestly.
Back in the early 2000's (and under), lots of great bands existed and were actually popular AND lots of good music was being distributed to the public with a powerful meaning. It saddens me to see that this market's pretty much dead. I see no value in rap music (that is being played today) or pop music, because it's literally repetitive songs about how this one rapper fucked another rapper's bitch and how every rapper "fucked my bitch" and all those amazing and creative lines that sound like they're written by a fucking preteen.
I understand that the market appeals to younger audiences and they're the main target, but how come this sort of music was mainstream back then and it had a positive meaning and image, and now it isn't anymore? Surely the youth are changing for the worse, and I feel like this is some sort of brain washing going on with younger people and making sure they grow up ignorant and obsessed with material things because "muh favorite artist has them" instead of actually being positive people in the world.
Discuss, I genuinely want to talk about this topic because I'm a person that is genuinely passionate about music and think it's helped me push through a lot of things that I've encountered in life, and I myself do music as a hobby.
