Planetary squares are based on very precise geometry, so much so that you cannot miss a single repetition.

So I would say no, the Sun square should be initiated on Sunday in the Sun's hours, when the Sun is in the sign of Leo or Aries.

Squares can also be started on other dates, signs, and even weekdays while still being effective. The exception would be fall and detriment signs which should not be used as they are completely unfavorable 'energy filters'. The results would not be comparable with the best dates, of course. The reason to choose something else than the home and exalted signs can vary and one must judge accordingly if it is something that should truly be used or instead wait for another, better time.
